With the bottom of the engine completely installed along with the oil pick-up, the oil pan was cleaned, painted black, and installed. |
The head returned from the machine shop today and it looks brand new. A simple valve job and decking of the head makes it ready for a new head gasket and to be install on the block. |
A final check of the finished surface on the block before the head is installed. We purchased new head bolts, and this rebuilt head will be installed correctly on the first try. |
The valve train was installed and gapped by the machine shop. All we had to do is rotate the valve train until we were at top dead center. |
With new head bolts, and a torque wrench in hand we installed the head along with new timing gears and chain. The oil pump is mounted exterior on this engine, and we installed it after we primed the pump and installed the timing cover. |
One final check of the timing, and the distributor will be installed and the engine is ready attach to to the engine hoist. |
Cheap plug, you can see what brand of tools we use. Craftsman rocks. |
We decided to install the engine without the intake or exhaust manifolds installed. I really don't know if this was a good idea or not. |
Hook it up, lift real high, aim and drop it into place. Sound easy, but it's a little more fun than that. |
We reconnected the fuel lines, exhaust pipes, cooling hoses, wiring, and anything else that look like it needed to be connected. By the way, the engine started up on the very first turn of the key. |
