My brother Tim owns this 1993 Nissan Truck. Our project was to rebuild the stock 4 cylinder engine which was attached to an automatic transmission. |
The engine was pulled completely intact with the intake and exhaust manifolds still attached to the engine. |
This stock 4-cylinder engine appears to have seen better days, and was rusted and covered with oil. The compression in cylinder 4 was low and it was blowing some white smoke. |
After we dug into the engine, and pulled the head off, we got a good look at the pistons. The cylinder walls and piston heads looked to be in good shape. |
The intake and exhaust valves looked used as expected for a engine this old. The good news is we had no cracks in the head, and the head could be rebuild. |
Many years of burnt oil has turned this valve train black, but all the parts would be cleaned and reinstalled. |
We honed the cylinder walls ourself using a hand drill and we replaced all the freeze plugs with new brass plugs. |
The engine block was not sent to the machine shop. We cleaned the block, degreased it. Then the block was lightly sanded and taped for painting. |
As the paint on the block dryed, we polished the crankshaft and then got down to the dirty work of installing the pistons, new oil rings, rods, crankshaft, and new bearings. |
The existing pistons were cleaned and installed right back into the same cylinder they came out of. As always we used alot of engine assembly lube. |
