The removal of the intake manifold was not as hard as it first looked. We did not have to remove the intake completey for the head to come out, so disconnecting everything was not needed. |
The exhaust manifold, like the intake had many 12mm nuts which held the manifold onto the head. We did remove the exhaust manifold and the Turbo completely to maintain working clearance. |
After removing the exhaust manifold, we found a break in the first cylinder exhaust port. We did not know of this exhaust leak, but it will be fixed with a new exhaust gasket. |
With the timing chain and camshalf gear in place the head was removed, only to find one inch of water in the second and fourth cylinder. |
The water cleaned the cylinder head of the second and fourth cylinder. The other two cylinders are black with carbon built-up. |
The water jacket hole nearest the cylinder head has broken through the gasket and has allowed the water to enter. The cylinder head is found to be cracked between the valves. |
During a close examination of the cylinder head, we found cracks between the valves in the head. This engine is toast, and shall be replace completely. |
