June 19, 1999 - update. I had the pit crew staff working with me on the project car today. We pulled the car into the garage, and decided to change the oil and oil filter. Draining the oil, I pulled the pan plug and out comes the light brown, thin oil with a smell of fuel in the oil. |
As I watched the oil fill the drain pan, I had to stop the flow and re-plug the pan because we filled the seven quart pan to the top. The engine still had more oil in it. Now I knew the oil had water or fuel in it, but could not tell which one. We added new oil and oil filter, notice the radiator needed water so we fill it also. |
We started the engine with the radiator cap off so I could fill the water level after it sucked down, and boom! The water came shooting out the top of the radiator with each compression stroke. We shut off the engine, I know now the head gasket is blown. Well now we plan to pull the engine and rebuilt it completely. |

A great afternoon project for my son and I was to attack the dashboard. Our goal was to remove everything except the meter cluster and the ignition. We ended up leaving the A/C equipment in for one more day because the plumbing went through the firewall. |
The pile of metal, leather, and form turned into a larger pile than I had predicted. It must have taking off about 50 pounds. The dashboard must have been made out of bullproof metal. |

We kept the meter cluster to plug back into the wire harness to check the engine until we install the new Autometer gauges. |
