Project Miata Engine Rebuild

Stage 4

Valves are marked by the machine shop
to make sure each existing valve goes
back in the original position.

The rebuilt head gets installed on the block
with a new head gasket.

The head bolts are torqued down per the
specs and double checked for accuracy.

More engine lube is added too the cam
lobes. Engine hint, you can never have to
much lube.

The stock oil splash shield is installed
and the oil pick-up is installed before I
close the bottom of the engine with the oil
pan.

I had trouble tracking down an oil pump
gasket which did not come in the gasket
set I purchased. New pulleys, timing belt
and water pump is installed and the front
of the engine is almost finish.

As you can see, I didn't clean the over-
spray of burnt coolant off the exterior
engine parts. My job is building them to
run, not cleaning them.

All the vacuum tubes are installed and it's
time to drop this toy engine back into the
the engine bay.

Well what better way to break in the newly
rebuilt engine by doing donuts at the race
track with the miata?

We spun the tires until they blew up! After
the day of donuts, I changed the oil and
gave the engine a check-up, everything
looks great!
