Project Miata Engine Rebuild

Stage 3

Oh the joy of cleaning engine parts
as you wait for the block, head, crank,
and flywheel to get back from the
machine shop.

The pistons started off very dirty, and
will a little love, and an oil ring groove
cleaner you end up with a nice clean
piston head.

Look what I found next to the fireplace
this morning. Looks like Santa Claus
came early this year! Miata parts!

A few weeks later, the engine parts
came back from the machine shop. It's
time to throw a engine building party!

We start on the bottom of the engine with
the crank bearing, and some engine lube.

The polished crank gets installed and more
engine lube applied.

The main caps go back on, and the pistons
with the new rings get installed.

New brass freeze plugs are installed and
the machine shop painted the block any color
the spray gun had in it that day.

The cleaned and polished block sure does
look brand new.

The head also looks brand new. A simple
valve job and decking the head makes the
head ready for reassembing.
